WHY SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR LOGO?
There are several reasons why changing your logo may be beneficial.
- Outdated Design
- Unfavorable Customer Response
- Misrepresentation of the Business
- Limiting or Restricting Design Elements
- Change of Name
- Marketing or Printing Restrictions
- Brand Revamping
Just to name a very few. This list could go on for days.
In most of the cases above, to change your logo, is simply not enough. In order to solve some problems, complete rebranding may be required. A logo revamp however, is a great starting point.
TRENDY IS AS TRENDY DOES
What once was “cool”, may no longer be cool. You need to be “cool”. At least in the eyes of those that consume your products or services. It is important that you focus on your targeted demographic. And that demographic is always changing with every year that goes by. For example if you sell a high quality baseball bat. Your demographic is likely athletic boys and men from between 11-25. But if you have been in business for more than 10 years, that demographics taste has changed significantly. Think back to what you thought was “cool” 20 years ago. Compare that to what is “cool” now. BIG DIFFERENCE. If your design does not change with time, you may still be appealing to the people that are now in their 40’s, but not so much to the newer generation which is your actual target. That is why it is important to change with time in order to always be appealing to your potential customers.
Here at Skilled Graphics, we have definitely seen a lot of changes in our nearly 15 years of business.. To be fair, our earlier logo designs were more from inexperience than following trends. Like many other business owners, I had no idea about branding or trends or that i needed to target my clients and appeal to them visually. Its taken a very long time and a lot of studying, research and trial and error to get the understanding I have now.
WHAT IF MY CUSTOMERS DON’T RECOGNIZE MY NEW LOGO?
When you change your logo, it is important that the change is as subtle as possible. Enough to be trendy but effective. The last thing you want to do is confuse your customers. In most cases a designer can change your logo just enough, that it meets todays standards and doesn’t confuse your customers.
FINAL THOUGHT
So should you change your logo? Ultimately I would advise talking to a professional about your specific needs. In some cases it may not be a great idea to change anything, especially if it is currently working for you and your customers. Branding after all, has more to do with your customers than you may think. However if you have noticed a decrease in sales, or a once loyal customer base. It may very well be time for a revamp.
